PART ONE
As sudden as their arrival,
They vanished
without a trace
No pyrotechnics or fanfare
Just one giant
empty space
And everyone's
asking questions
Like what was the
goddamned point
Humanity's left
without answers
Our spirits were
knocked out of joint
Now I've been
doing some thinking
And watching the
world return
To some kind of
state of normal
And there's
something I have learned
While living in
fear of the unknown
The world had a
common threat
And people who'd
fought one another
Were basically
forced to forget
And nations had
banded together
To map out a plan
of attack
For now at least
they will remember
They once had each
other's back
And what of the
visiting objects
Are they coming
again some day
Let's hope it
doesn't take that lesson
To remind us all
how to behave
PART TWO
At the end of the day
Things stay the same
But nothing appears
Completely unchanged
But you didn't expect
Square holes
perfectly round
And you didn't expect
Silence making a sound
And you didn't expect
Your whole world
crashing down
To test your resolve
When the dust
finally clears
There's nothing so dear
Than the life that
you live
Without worry and fear
But you didn't expect
Darkness bright as
a light
And you didn't expect
Daytime all
through the night
And you didn't expect
Giving up all of
your rights
To test your resolve
How long will this
feeling go on?
Inescapable
emptiness from dusk until dawn
Can you find any
answers, do you know what went wrong?
What went wrong?
When it's all said
and done
You're the
fortunate one
Because you survived
This mystery ride
But you didn't expect
Closing your eyes
to see
And you didn't expect
Paying for
everything free
And you didn't expect
Giving your soul
to me
To test your resolve
At the end of the day
Things stay the same
But nothing appears
Completely unchanged |
